Av

I've seen a few times "AV" posted here. I looked it up and found out what it meant: Addictive Voice.

Wow. Just wow. So glad I now have a term for that feeling.

It really is so true.

Thanks again.

it makes you feel a little more sane doesn't it?! To know that you aren't going crazy and there really is a little devil there talking to you, making excuses for you, rationalising your habits for you. It was a game changer for me to understand that too!

Yes, and the best thing is, once you know that, you can tell it buzz off.

Have you seen the threads about AVRT in the Secular Connections forum here on SR? ( Addictive Voice Recognition Technique), those ideas really resonated with me and I always recommend checking them out .
wish you well and hope to see you around , kicking the AV's butt

Hi! No, I have not. I haven't viewed anything outside of the Newcomers board yet, but I'll get there. Thanks for the recommendation!

The whole AV concept arranges things more logically for me. I don't know the best way to describe it ... It slows things down and keeps me from getting all spun up with the feels.

Also look into urge surfing, which is basically one's mindful reaction to the addictive voice.

Checking out rational recovery will give you a better understand of the AV, but regardless of plan you choose to follow, the concept is still the same.
For us alcoholics, our subconscious minds tell us we need alcohol just to survive, while our conscious minds know this is simply not true. As for the ongoing battle to tell our subconscious or AV to shut up, and listen to the truth our conscious minds know.
