Nothing to be scared of. Trust me. They're just people like you , I and us dealing with the same thing. Only a few steps through the door and an hour or so of your time.

That's brave and honest and true of you to embrace, state, this.

Ask yourself this:

Were you ever too afraid to go into the liquor store/corner store/down the wine aisle at the height of alcoholic craving or did you nervously barge on in and get 'er done?

;-)

I remember feeling exactly the same way. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was scared to death... scared of what has turned out to be the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life. That which I was seeking was causing me to seek, and it was on the other side of the door. Come on in. We have all been there.

It took a 2nd DUI(court ordered) to get me to walk in the door. Do not be me! I'm/was a horrible 'example'! I tried to go when I first signed up here and didn't. Could have saved me about $10k-$20K for an hour of my time...had I listened. I was 'blinded' by the religious aspect of AA..That's not AA,to me,anymore. It's a room of people like me.Some believe in a 'god',some don't but, we ALL had/have the same issue and are there for the same reason. Support.

Just go in and check it out. Most of the folks at the meeting don't bite :P
Seriously, I know it can feel scary to embark on a new journey but you can do it. Let us know how it went

Thanks everyone!
I didn't get to read these until just now.
I just got home a bit ago.
Made it through the doors and to my first meeting!!
I met so many nice people. Everyone was so warm and welcoming.
There were about 40 people, so many people with years and years of being sober.
4 women gave me their names and numbers in case I need support or want to talk.
It was wonderful. I'm SO happy I went.
They have a women's meeting Friday night. I'm going to that one too!!!

good on ya!!!
so, on them numbers? them women truly are there to support, guide, and give suggestions. i strongly encourage you when the 1st thought of calling one of them numbers comes up, act on that thought real quick. if no answer, leave a message and call the next.
and the phone is a LOT lighter than a bottle and much better solutions, too!

Glad it was a good experience. The women's meeting is a good idea. I know it's scary the first time but the people are welcoming and they understand what you're going thru.
