Shakes after 4 days

Long story short, I was drinking upwards of 750ml of vodka a day for the last couple months after falling off the wagon. I spent a week tapering off which ended 4 days ago (last day of tapering was Sunday and was just 1 serving). I felt really good up until today when I all of a sudden got the shakes pretty badly. I still feel pretty good, but the shakes are pretty bad. Has anyone else had this happen?

Hey Ironhorse,
My withdrawal symptoms were limited to mental stuff. I had made my mind up if I had any serious physical symptoms I was going to the doctors. You may want to consider that if it doesn't improve.

Hi Ironhorse

I'm sorry about the shakes.
none of us are doctors - if it's concerning you the very best thing to do is see a Dr.

Thanks for the replies. I did see my doctor at the start of my taper. She recommended medical detox, but the detox centre said I would be ok to continue with my home detox/taper.

I'm not all that worried, it's just annoying.

Dee...you will be happy to know that I finally took your advice and got serious about my recovery by creating a recovery plan. I tried for so long to do it on my own, but I'm realizing now that I need outside professional help along with a solid plan. Its been a busy couple weeks with doctor appointments, counselling, AA, smart recovery, etc, but it has been worth the time and effort.

I'm always happy to hear that Ironhorse.

Keep and eye on the shakes - if your Dr wanted you to do a supervised detox there was probably a good reason for that - pays to be careful, even overly careful.

It could be just major anxiety or too much caffeine. It can take up to ten days to fully detox.

Hi Ironhorse,

I have had the shakes after days of binge drinking. Usually would last 24-48 hours after my last drink. Often accompanied by sweats, and very high blood pressure. I am not a doctor, but I would suggest keeping an eye on your symptoms and go to a physician if the symptoms increase in severity, especially if you have any blood pressure issues.

All the best,

J
