Something's got to give

I'm now 40 days sober today.
Although very very close to drinking today, I didn't. That's the good news. I'm glad the store is closed now.

I feel on edge and I'm cranky and grumpy. Weekends are difficult when I'm not working. My partner doesn't understand the cravings and how difficult it can be.
Yes, I went to my meeting and trying to keep busy.

I need something to calm me down. Just to get through.
I go into work tomorrow night and I hope that helps.

Thanks for listening. It helps just to get it out.

Have you ever worked on a plan 10r?

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ery-plans.html

white knuckling and gritting your teeth can really make you tired - and when we're tired we can make mistakes.

Having a regular support group can really help. I'm glad to go to AA - do you have a sponsor?

what about outside AA support?

Have you tried the May or June support threads?

Have you given any thought to relaxation techniques?

exercise?
hot baths?
guided meditations?
hobbies?
Interests?

There so much you can do to defeat that devilish voice in your ear.

Leave no stone unturned - you can do this

D

10R- welcome. Well done on 40 days. Dee has said it all (he REALLY is worth paying attention to), I would add- to outside support- for me that means regular doc. check ups, seeing a counsellor regularly to talk about the ways I cope, less often a psychologist on the why I drank. I do AA meetings- and have done SMART- both have a different focus, but the end is the same-0 to reamin clean/sober. Support to you.

A walk in nature always helps calm me down.

Congratulations on 40 days. That's fantastic!

Agreed, with PJ and Dee (do listen to Dee!).

I'm a dedicated AA-er and I know that my medical and psych care are critical to my recovery as well. Getting a baseline for my health and maintaining regular checkups (my thyroid is the one physical thing I take medicine for) - and talking honestly with my psych so that we have and keep a fitting rx regimen for me. This includes anti-craving meds, a low dose of Paxil, as needed anxiety med (ativan/lorazepam) that is carefully dosed and monitored, and a nightly sleep med (with an anti-anxiety component- I take seroquel), and I take lamictal/lamotrigine to maintain what are now minimal BPD symptoms.

I have a sense of freedom and peace that AA promises - and my fatigue comes mainly from an active job and other things I do, not from the pressure of white knuckling or grasping for answers.

I hope you keep making the sober choice and that you find an easier path with support from SR and beyond!

PS- related to your thread title....what DOESN'T have to give is your sobriety.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling better today but I did need support when I wrote thi thread.

There are some good ideas. Some of which I'm doing already and some to look at and try in the next few days.

No, I won't give up my sobriety.
If I can make it through days like yesterday then I can do this.
40 days is a long time and I worked so very hard to be here.
Remembering how sick I was and how alcohol was destroying my life is the number 1 reason I won't drink again.

Your ideas will be help along the way.
Thanks again and I will post updates.

Lavender is a calming scent. I go for a walk, take deep breaths, do some gentle stretching, until the urge passes.
I don't get them much anymore. Time helps.

Some days are going to be tough. I experience them as well. If the thought of drinking comes in, and it has, I usually have to think about what I have eaten for the day? What is going on in that moment? The idea to drink leaves within a few minutes and I am off to do the next best thing. Thankfully, I have not had many of those moments. Its good to see that you are taking all the necessary steps before taking that first drink.

I love lavender. I keep some at home, in my office, and in my car.

10r, glad you posted about how you were feeling, and that you're continuing to work through it.
