Pins and needles

I've been to see a doc who specialises in addiction. I've been prescribed baclefen. The plan is to taper off alcohol as my cravings decrease. lately when I wake up in the morning I have pins and needles either in my hands or feet. This is really scaring me and I'm sure it's alcohol related. I do have a plan in place with my doctor but the taper will take a bit longer

Anyone have experience with alcohol related pins and needles. It goes away a minute or so after I wake up and give my limbs a shake!

It could be the Baclofen. I'd phone the doctor and tell him/her even if over the phone.

Hi SN

The problem is none of us are doctors - we can share our experience but who's to say our pins and needles cause is the same as yours?

We can't even say for sure if it is alcohol related - it could even be a side effect of the med...the only person who can really give you answers is your DR..

My pins and needles are due to nerve damage - I've had it long before I ever took a drink.

Sometimes it can be as simple as a pinched nerve

See your Dr and find out what exactly it is SN

Check with your doctor. I have carpel tunnel syndrome from many, many years of writing/typing etc. I would wake up with hands completely numb and hurting, the whole pins and needles. I started wearing hand/arm braces while sleeping and the problem resolved. But definitely ask your doctor.

i've noticed a pattern in your posts - whenever you start into sobriety, you find some physical symptom that troubles you, scares you, and that seems to "allow" you to talk yourself out of stopping the drinking and go back to the very thing that is making you sick.

what if just to change the mindset you start listing all the GOOD things that will come from being a sober person?

the first few days/weeks are a rough go. it's a fact, it's what happens. symptoms very widely and since you are under a doctor's care that is where you should go with any health concerns. ultimately you have to accept that ALCOHOL is the problem. and that your drinking days are OVER.

Why would you keep on doing what is causing you the health problems in the first place?

I never got pins and needles, but my right thigh would have a burning sensation and then basically go numb. It has gotten worse over time. Ive had MRIs done and doctors really cant figure it out. One has said that it could be my scyatic nerve is being pinched across my hip bones.
My point is, there are numerous possibilities for pins and needles. If you have it when you wake up and it goes away when you stretch, sounds to me like poor circulation. You have to check it out with an MD to get a proper diagnosis

I had pins and needles when I was really anaemic.
Had then in my hands and feet.

I think the advice to see your doctor is the best way to move forward with this.
A simple blood test may give some clues and show the reason why you have these symptoms.

I wish you the best xx

Have you had the pins and needles checked out SN? A Dr would really need to examine you in order to make a diagnosis. Wishing you well with your recovery.

Last year I had pins and needles in my hands when I woke up. It was anxiety and yoga and meditation sorted it out. Now completely gone.

Woke up last night and my whole foot was completely numb. It took a few minutes to come back to normal. I thought alcoholic neuropathy would be constant not just at night. Heading to doctor this morning.
