Shaky but determined
Day 1 after 2 years daily drinking. Hit it really hard last week and decided enough is enough. Stopped a few times before (longest 8 months). But fell for the 'I'm cured so can drink like a normal person' con. Not looking forward to tonight, but determined to beat if for good this time.
Hi Steve,
Welcome to SR. I've been through the "now I'm cured, I can drink again" after abstaining for a long period of time too. Now we know, right?
As you know, the first few days are the hardest. Hang in there, keep yourself hydrated, eat, sleep and push through the urges. I found that staying close to SR helped. There's a lot of support here...use it!

Nice one Steve! If you have previous sober time you know you can do this.
This is my first serious attempt at sobriety so every time someone reminds me of "con" of going back, it's a little easier to dismiss any lingering doubts. Thanks.

Yip - don't underestimate the con!
Been sober 4 times in my 40's (normally about a month or so - other than the 8 month one). Every time was the same - 'I can just have a beer at the weekend etc'. Then back to nightly drinking (usually more than before) until having to go through another painful withdrawal. So yes - don't listen to any doubts, or you get dragged back in.
Welcome to the family. I had 20 yrs sober and wrecked it in 07 when I started drinking again. It took me about two years to finally get sober for good again.
I hope our support can help you get and stay sober for good.
