Memorial Day Weekender 26th - 29th May
For the non Americans among us Memorial Day itself is to remember those who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The three day Memorial Day Weekend is seen as the unofficial start of summer with many BBQ's and picnics being held to celebrate.
Here in the UK we too have a Public Holiday on Monday - Whitsun.
My guess is that for many people reading this post the long weekend in past years would have meant three days of drinking, three days of hangovers and three days of not doing much at all. Memorial Day would ironically be a time of no memory.
This year why not join with us and get the most out of the extended weekend by staying sober and drug free and actually enjoy ourselves instead.
PS I had some disturbing personal news which meant that I could not participate in the thread properly. Hopefully all will be fine this week and I would like to give a huge thank you for all if your messages of support.

I'm in! Not much planned for the long weekend - I am going to a friend's cabin Saturday - Not sure if we are staying there Saturday night or not. Mostly we will be doing maintenance - mowing, cleaning, maybe a bit of plumbing. But I look forward to it anyway - the cabin is lovely and in a very quiet spot. I recently got my full driving privileges back - woo hoo! I can now drive wherever and whenever I want to. Freedom!

This is a rough weekend for me. The 0527 at the end of my name represents my last sobriety attempt here when I made it days shy of 18 months. I would have had 4 years sober on the 27th had I been mindful. When I returned last May I thought of having my name changed to LadyBlue0509 and then I really thought it through. As important it is for me to be grateful to be sober now I don't ever want to forget what happened last time and will happen if I lack mindfulness again. It's far from beating myself up for faltering. It's a consistent reminder of the lesson I learned and will never forget.
This is a weekend made for alcohol. I already see the plans all over the place on Facebook and every single one of them boast how much alcohol will be present. I revel in the fact that at no given moment will I not be accountable nor will I have to endure the suffering of a hangover.
Stay close and check in if you need to!

Isn't it awesome???? You had to endure a much longer time than me so I can't even imagine, I was only around 10 months.
Do you find yourself looking for reasons to drive somewhere now? Funny how we use to think "ugh" when we had forgotten something and needed to go back to the store. Now I grab the keys and appreciate the fact that I can go.

205 days sober today. Heading to the beach for six days with some friends, all of whom know I am sober, so I'm feeling quite confident. I've noticed my friends drink way less when we're all together now that I'm not pressuring everyone to "keep the party going"...oy vey, what a mess I was.

It really is awesome, LB. It's only been two days, so I keep having to remind myself that I can do whatever I want. I didn't always adhere perfectly to my restrictions, so when I was outside of my driving hours a little I was terrified. And even when I was driving within my hours and just going to the grocery store (totally allowed) I was dreading being pulled over or getting into an accident, because I knew they would scrutinize me and might find a way to arrest me anyway. Two years of looking over my shoulder, over.

Yippee! Marty - it must feel great to get your driving freedom back .
One of my co-workers is having a bad day, she is having to unpick the stitches of an unwanted letter"S" from 28 uniforms. I am staying well clear.
