Quack from drunk-driving ex
Not sure if this belongs in the quacking column or not:
Background (or see other thread): Last week ex tried to pick up Kid from school while very drunk, staff and parent prevented him, police were called, I'm irate.
Ex's excuse: his second ex-wife took his breathalyzer, so how was he supposed to know he was over the legal limit? Can't blame him for that, can you?
Questions that come to mind:
1. What on earth is second ex-wife doing with a breathalyzer?
2. The pile of empty bottles didn't act as a substitute breathalyze - gee, if I just drank all that, maybe I shouldn't be driving?

The only question is, why is he EVER in a position to NEED A BREATHALYZER BEFORE PICKING UP HIS KID?
But that's HIS question to be asking, not yours. You don't need to attend to any of this nonsense.

Geez Louise. It's very easy. Don't drink before you pick up your kid. You don't need a breathalyzer for that.
He's so desperate for a sip that he can't wait until evening?
He is going to go before court yes? I'm sure the judge will love those excuses.
At the end of the day, just don't engage with this guy. He isn't worth your time.

LOL, she TOOK HIS BREATHALYZER? That is one of the more hysterical excuses I've ever heard of. I mean, none of this--trying to pick up kid at school, drunk--is funny, but that excuse almost qualifies as comic relief.
Let's just HOPE he trots that out in court. Please, PLEASE make sure you pass that gem on to your lawyer. It will make his/her day to be able to use it on cross-examination. It will probably find its way into endless retellings to fellow attorneys when the war stories are being tossed around.

OMG you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried!!!
My AH "drank in the morning and wasn't really even under the influence anymore" when he picked my kids up. When I can tell within 2 min of him walking in that he was without a doubt drinking, i don't care when or how much or when he drank. Not acceptable.

But a very articulate and persuasive idiot, unfortunately. He can make things like this sound completely rational and logical. Because I was stuck in his delusional world for so long, Having sounding boards, like this group or Al Anon or a few friends, helps me to get that objective distance and to remind myself: yes, he is an idiot. And therefore I don't have to take his rationalizations seriously, and in fact sometimes they are funny in their ridiculousness.
