I Learn Something New Everyday

Hello To All,

I am just discovering the world of online sober communities. I am excited to see what's here and what I can learn. I am not overly fond of social gatherings but I do attend 1 support group a week and am looking to add this forum as a way to network with people.

Thanks for your time.

Thank you to all, I am off to bed but will be back tomorrow. I sat in on a meeting room but was too chicken to share. Always next time.

J424, I learn every day too. It seems a lot to do with limitations- which is a good thing, because I find now sober- I am doing much, much more than I have ever done b4- even WITH those limitations. Have thoughts come about doing more than just the 1 weekly group? Half the reason I MAKE myself go to AA, is just to connect. Even if I just sit and listen, and not socialise- being around people is comforting. No stress either- many will just say they will share by listening.
Keep posting. Support to you.

Yeah, I have been to several local AA meetings and I do outings with members of my outpatient treatment group. I kinda struggle with the interpersonal relations piece, which makes it easier to make excuses about not going. I am starting EMDR soon for trauma processing, and I have really noticed the Naltrexone helps. Thanks for all the support

Today is a great day. The weather in my part of the world is awesome and the player's championship is on. I am thankful for my Mom and all mothers on Mother's Day. I hope this post finds everyone doing well, and today I learned a lot about taking responsibility for my own emotions, thoughts, and actions. I went for a walk and felt totally renewed.

I could use a few strategies on how to stay positive with some of my peers. I do try to give support and empathize with each and every one, but 5 of my peers have relapsed and I struggle to say things because I only have 16 days in myself. Yes, I have been around the block a few times, and do feel I am on the right path now. I don't feel right giving out standard boiler plate phrases, and I can't speak from personal experience b/c my longest stretch ever has only been 3 months. Does anyone have ideas/experience with being a beacon of hope to a group of chronic slow learners (relapses)?

Are these peers old drinking buddies or old rehab buddies or both?

This may not be what you want to hear but I had to change my life and surround myself with sober people ....I wanted - needed - to put clear distance between the person I had been ad the person I wanted to become.

I'd tried getting sober in my old life but my old life was geared to drinking - it was inevitable that in old places and with old drinking buds I'd go back to the default.

I'd tried to be that beacon of hope before and thats a noble thought - but I just succeeded in pulling the both of us under....

to rescue someone you need skills, experience, and a map, I think?

Put your oxygen mask on first
