New to the group
I'm new to this group, but not to alcoholism or recovery.
I quit drinking on Dec 28 or 29 2012, and I haven't looked back at alcohol since.
Before that, I'd been drinking since around '92 or '93, with many attempts at sobriety-for my family, for God, for the church, and all kinds of reasons.
I went to rehab 3x in the early 00's, and twice I started drinking within a week of graduating their program; the third time I didn't even complete the program.
After rehab it was a downward spiral of booze, work, quitting my job, booze, work, quitting more jobs, until I was virtually unemployable.
In Dec of 12, I woke up in an emergency room with a concussion, and six stitches just above my left eye where a dinner plate had connected with my head the night before at an out of hand party.
That morning, I knew I was done drinking, but I honestly didn't know or how long; it seemed impossible that I could be anything but the alcoholic that I had become so used to seeing in the mirror.
Here I am, some 4 years and 4 months later, sober and happy. I no longer have any desire at all to drink.
My name is Dave, and I was an alcoholic, and if I pick up a drink, I will continue to be an alcoholic.
God bless anyone who is on day one of recovery
