Hello i need some guidance

Hello im new here but not a stranger to alcohol, i am 40 years old and have spent my life from my late teens drinking.
I am trying to find a reliable trustworthy clinic in the uk private that can prescribe me antabuse.
I had it when i was younger and it was the best i have ever done.

I am sorry if i come across as short but i am at a loss as to what to do now.

Thankyou.

Hi Lee,

Welcome! You might try starting with your family dr to see if he would prescribe antabuse, and if not, maybe he could give you a recommendation to a clinic that would.

Welcome to Sr Lee I agree with Anna.
Antabuse really helped me get over the hump when I got out of treatment, but the important thing is once you've got some sober time under your belt having and working a strong recovery plan is very important. Antabuse is not a cheap medication where I am but a very useful tool for many.
If you run into road blocks, don't give up on yourself. Get some peer support, there are many ways to get and stay sober.

Hi Leee. Glad you're here and posting.

Why not try something different this time, even if you do manage to get the antabuse. It sounds like it wasn't enough to make sobriety get comfortable and sustainable for you. That takes working on recovery. Addressing the alcoholic thinking as well as the alcoholic drinking.

What is stopping you from approaching your own doctor for antabuse?

Wishing you all the best for your sobriety and recovery. BB

We're glad you're here, Lee. This place helped me quit a 30 yr. drinking career. Reading & posting does wonders - you never have to feel alone.

Thankyou for all the responses, to answer a couple of questions i have been in abuse support counselling for years and have previously had antabuse in my 20s after 5 years of dependence 24/7 drinking which resulted in seizures and hallucinations.

Since then i have had problems with binge drinking, i can go to my gp but the support service is overloaded and i cant do anymore counselling, it is not so much how to stop drinking it is how not to start again and antabuse has in the past stopped me making that rash decision.

I am in assessment for adhd and Asperger syndrome which i use alcohol to stop my mind rushing everywhere and to sleep.

My family is very supportive and it is my mum that has asked me to find a way to get antabuse in the private healthcare sector and she will pay but only ever having gone through the nhs i am lost as to where to find out this information.

Thanks again for the help.
