A Huge Perk
There are so many benefits that come when we give up alcohol. Financial stability, health, I could go on and on. Here's a big one that have enjoyed.
I suffer greatly from spring allergies. I'm not talking mild to serious inconvenience of a runny nose and itchy eyes. I get terrible sinus infections, and it has turned to pneumonia more than once. Frankly, it scares me half to death, and I always dread the coming of Spring.
My last drink (my last drunken night, actually) was October First. This Spring came, and a lot of people I know are suffering from allergies, as usual.
Me? Some sniffles. A bit of a foggy head. Watery eyes.
I'd say that I have about 5% of what it usually does to me. Now, I know that our bodies change, and perhaps my sobriety has nothing to do with it. I choose to believe that I am healthier because I am not drinking. And that my body is functioning much, much better than it has in decades.
And, as I said, it's just one perk of getting and staying sober. I struggled through the last seven months, and my struggles are not over, but I am reaping benefits of sobriety. There are so many.

OMG- this. I've suffered horribly as well over the years and this spring has been so easy. The only difference- I'm not tanked or recovering from my daily hangovers. I also gave up smokes with the booze.

I had the same experience, except my allergies were year round. I figured it was mostly my pets and the woodstove and just kept sneezing on.
Then I quit drinking...voila. No sneezing, no tissue box in every room, no red swollen eyes.
I just wish I had known this, oh, a couple of decades earlier!
