Hi everyone!
Hi everyone!
New to the forum and recovery. Been to sporadic AA meetings over the years but don't connect with their philosophies. Had an alcohol related medical scare in 2007 and completely stopped drinking until about 3 or 4 years ago. It crept in as an occasional one with a celebration, but gradually moved up to several shots of vodka every day. I have always been fascinated with alcohol and as soon as I got away to college, I became a binge drinker at parties, then happy hours after work.
It is disruptive to my family life, Gained weight, spent tons of money on it and it is still 100% off-limits per my doctor/medical condition. But whatever effects it's having, I don't see them. so it's easy to ignore.
So, my life is generally pretty good. I don't have any crises or issues that are keeping me from being sober every day. My family is supportive. Just that stupid AV that tells me how much fun it is to be buzzed and who would even know since I'm home alone all day.
So, thanks. I may post from time to time, but I find reading the posts very helpful for now,
Today is Day 1. The afternoon drink period passed and I didn't have anything!

Welcome to SR. There's every good reason to stop drinking and no good reason to continue.
It's funny you mention "who would even know" you were drinking while at home all day. I quit drinking over 3 years ago. My husband is an active alcoholic and is still battling those demons. He doesn't even have to open his mouth and I can immediately tell when he's been using. It has a far greater impact on those around us than we imagine.
You're in the right place. Keep coming back.
