alcohol in puff pastry

Something to watch out for,

I bought store ready made puff pastry, cheap old stuff.

Didn't bother to check the ingredients list until i got home, i try to avoid palm oil so was disappointed to see that and then i noticed ethanol ..

ethanol in puff pasty ! i opened the pack and had a sniff , euggh i could smell those fumes .. bleugh why ruin my trashy food purchase with that rubbish ..

Alcohol has stolen another £1.50 from me and messed up my plans for dinner ( no surprise eh ? ) , into the bin with it and home made short crust pastry from now on.

Always read the ingredients ,

I did not that alcohol was put into puff pastry Mecanix. I did a quick check online and found this from one producers customer services dept.

GMWA Foodguide

I think a small amount, <1% is used as a preservative. That said I suppose once you know it's there then you are aware of it.

It appears to be considered Halal -acceptable to the Muslim community which I notice most of the enquiries came from.

Wow that's the first time I've seen it - this thread is a good reminder to remember what's in our food Mecanix

I still use vanilla extract and when I take the lid off it's pretty potent. I mean it's basically vodka with vanilla beans.

I don't think I'll drink over it. I'm sure some would not use it.
