Note to Self from Day 3

So I had a pretty decent day yesterday and decent sleep. Better than I thought on both counts. Woke up feeling better than I have since I quit the first time.

But here is something someone in early recovery should not do: have a big cup of coffee! Anxiety ramped up immediately.

Agree 100%. The funny thing is, for me after a few months of sobriety, I need that coffee to get me going. Oh how things change.

I stayed away from coffee too.

At my AA meetings, coffee flows hard.

It obviously can't kill then.

My anxiety ramps up too, but it does help my performance.

I look forward to my coffee. It is my new doc.

My theory was that I had spent years using a tranquilizer (alcohol) to suppress my central nervous system, so using a stimulant like caffeine when I was in early recovery was probably not a good idea. I thought it best to let my CNS find some sort of sustained equilibrium for a while.

That is hilarious, Horn! Not the anxiety part, just the way you worded the coffee part. If you can keep your sense of humor, it'll get you through a rough spot or two.

Good luck.

Congrats on day 3!! I'm there myself! I've been out of coffee and haven't had time to grab more; it sounds like a good thing though haha! Thanks for the laugh

Good reminder. It can amp up the symptoms of withdrawal.

Congratulations on 3 days Horn95.

I have a coffee on waking and another when I get to work and then none after. It does not causecme anxiety but I find it interferes with my sleep.
