I been tryna quit for years it's so hard because I do music . Anyone have some tips that can help me get threw this

hey Migz ,
i sang in a band and got sober , music is still important to me my timing is better, my singing is better, remembering words is easier.

I think there have been other people on SR who are also into music , sometimes you need to change it up from drinking songs ..

with quite a bit of time sober i've found that those songs are not triggery these days.

i'm a long way from the old drunky me and have grown into a new sober person , the drunk is only a drink away but in another important way he is another life away .

Sobriety can be yours .

I'm a musician who lost his career through drinking. I didn't go back to music until my second year sober when I found a sober band.

The experience of playing sober was incredible - I was nervous sure but only til the first note...the clarity and the swiftness of my reflexes was a revelation to me.

I also made sure that I was 110% committed to staying sober before I went back to playing.

Those after gig drinks people insist on buying you became soda water for me

Now I'm busier than I've ever been musically, my reputation is back and I can play with anyone anytime and not be swayed but anything going on around me.

It took time but it was worth it

If you're finding you can't play music without drinking, you might want to consider a break - maybe just until you decide that recovery is your prime objective.

I'm actually really glad I gave up being a 'rock star' (if only in my head) to become a humble sober musician

First you have to explain what about doing music makes it difficult:

Easy access to booze, especially free booze?
Need a buzz to perform?
Feel rude turning down drinks from patrons?

I am an artist as well. I draw, write, and play guitar. None very well, but I have the desire.

Some of my biggest inspirations are artists that got sober. My 2 favorites are Joe Walsh and Steven Tyler.

The longevity goes through the roof, because you got to tough to be a good drunk.

Not really joking about such a serious subject.

Seriously our lives are on the line w this booze thing.

The quicker we get clean the better.

Drinking is a learned behavior. Unlearn it.
