Abstinence and Rewards
It was five months ago that I was sitting in my doctors office being read the riot act about my blood panel results. Being asked questions like, "So, hows the drinking going?" of course I downplayed it like a fool. Here is a physician looking at my blood panel and he knows I drink WAY too much. I drank a lot for drunks kinda too much. And I'm trying to BS him. He then proceeds to tell me everything that is going on inside me and showing me the panels with the little you should be between C and D for this reading and you're at X or Y. Uncomfortable moment with a man I respect and like.
Today I went back to see him again. Same question "So, hows the drinking going?" This time I was honest. He smiled and asked me to come over and look at my panels from blood that was drawn Monday.
My liver enzymes were well within the normal range.
My cholesterol was at 160.
My red blood cells are not enlarged anymore (I have no idea what that meant).
I still weigh 195 but my waist went from a 36 to a 34.
And he is talking about completely taking me off my BP Med's (Too be decided at next check up).
All I did was quit drinking, ate only healthy food (except one cheat day where anything goes...Yeah for Pasta), and made it to the gym.
When I first found SR online I was already past my 90 days sober point. I started having those "Why in the HE** am I putting myself thru this" thoughts. I had forgotten all the bad stuff, I was feeling like myself again for the first time in years. But I stuck it out and then got online and the support and camaraderie have been outstanding.
Today was a reward for my efforts and my sobriety. I know there are more to come..

that is wonderful!! be very very thankful so many people have to live with health problems after they get sober because they did so much damage.
I am like you. I am super healthy but I know people who aren't.
Congratulations!!

What a great post!! My blood pressure was too high my last check up and I was told from my blood work that I was prediabetic. I haven't been back yet but I'm sure those results would be different today. I used to be able to feel my heart pounding away way too fast, all that's gone now.
