New here

Just wanted to say hello. I was sober for 2 years, relapsed, another year sober, then started drinking again. That was about 5 years ago and I really want to stop for good now. I have so many wonderful opportunities in front of me and I'm scared I'll lose everything and hurt my loved ones in the process. Just needed to get it out there.

Welcome. Glad you found us.

Do you have a plan yet? If not, I'd suggest checking out the links on Dee's thread. ...http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...y-plans-1.html

Wishing you all the best for your sobriety and recovery. BB

Hi Tricia- welcome. Lots of stuff at SR. Get a plan together- info etc. Relapse for me suggests (when it happened to me in the past) I need to do something different. Not only with sobriety - but the way I think, what I do every day, how to cope with feelings etc. Whether relapse if from 'letting our guard down' or just the instinctive reach for the first drink, then the damage is done. For me- thinking can change, with time by behaving differently. From daily routine with cleaning house, paying bills- to journal writing and meetings and having consistent professional support. Which is what I offer to you- support.

It's so good to meet you, Tricia. I'm glad you're realizing what drinking is doing to your life. You don't need it. Welcome to a great place for encouragement.

Thank you all for the welcome. I'm beating myself up pretty hard right now - I know I'm an alcoholic, I have had sober time, I'm very blessed in so many ways, so why do I keep messing up? But I know that thinking won't help. So for now I'll try to get through today. Thank you again.

Hi Tricia, I was in the same boat as you a little over 5 months ago. I had so much to lose and was going to lose it all at any moment but fortunately was able to stop drinking. I really don't want to mess up again and hope I stay sober. I try and take it day by day and do what I can to not drink again. It is a daily reprieve I guess, and so I don't want to beat myself up too much obsessing on if I will mess up again and relapse.

Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on the 5 months. I'm working to get through today. I'll deal with tomorrow when it comes. Today I'm not drinking, God willing, and that's all I can do for now. It's really helpful to be able to be honest and open on this site, though.
