Day 2

My goal was to change my routine. As soon as I left work and got in my car I found myself thinking about having my usual after work drinks. I followed some advice I had read on the forum. I took a step back and instead of feeling my craving I just thought of it as this separate thing. I just thought to myself, oh, there is that thing again. Something about that helped me push it to the side and get over it. I drove a different route home and also took myself right to bed. I was up a while reading on my phone but I wasn't on the couch watching TV. That's where most of my drinking occured. I'm feeling proud of myself today. I need to be mindful to take things 1 day at a time, practice techniques for changing habits, and check in on the forum for support.

Good job C82. Quitting drinking is a massive life change and requires us to treat it as such. Creating a new normal is one way to go about making changes to get your mind off of drinking.

Good job! For me, it was life-changing, when I realized that my thoughts and feelings were just that. They didn't control me. I could look at them and let them go. I'm glad you're doing well.

Congratulations Cknopf82! Every night you make it without drinking I a huge success. Making new routines and acknowledging the urge to drink has really helped me. It usually passes. Good luck.
