Headache and nausea

Hi everyone,
Ive been of drink now for eighteen days. Was feeling ok up until a few days ago. Ive had a lingering headache that hasnt gone away, even when i wake in the morning its still there. Coupled with nausea.
Ive been a binge drinker for about 20 years, drinking up to a bottle of vodka in a session every few days. In recent months ive started drinking through the day and it was starting to get too out of hand to control.
Im wonder are these headaches and nausea some sort of withdrawals?
Has anyone else experienced this 18 days sober?

That didn't happen to me, after the first 5 or so days.

It's always a good idea to talk to your dr. This may be alcohol related or not.

Hi Sonya- My DH and I stopped drinking almost 3 weeks ago and both of us have been experiencing dull headaches (no nausea) on and off the last few days. A couple aspirin and a cup of hot tea helped us.

As mentioned by many here, everyone is different and it might be wise to see a doctor if your symptoms persist.

Congrats on 18 days sober!

I had headaches for the first 2 weeks after I quit.... right in my temples and behind my eyes. They seem to have eased up now though. Give it some time, your body is healing.

Hi Sonya - welcome
A lot of find we get sick after e get sober...I think we run our immune systems down pretty good. This could be a bug for example.

If its concerning you, I'd check with your Dr

Welcome Sonya, I'm on 74 days sober and still get different ailments including nausea, brain fog, paw symptoms and head aches, I put it down to the body in recovery which takes time after all the abuse it got and is trying to get better. I suggest you check out PAWS (post alcohol withdrawal syndrome) Good Luck in your Journey and Happy St. Patricks Day in advance (alcohol free of course).

Sonya,

The depth of damage varies...imo.

I had red eyes and headaches for weeks. I had moderate anxiety for well over 18 months.

Now at 22 months sober, I feel normal..I think...I am just not used to normal.

I drank for over 40 years...and drank hard off and on that whole time.

I crave daily. Relapse looms. Obviously, the ability to decide not to drink gets better.

Booze is poison. Drinking is a learned behavior. Unlearn it.

Thanks.

I have stopped and started and stopped again a few times, not deliberately, but moreso due to feeling terrible. This past time it was not a planned stop, but I ended up deciding I liked waking up not hungover and sick every single day. Difference being that instead I woke up with withdrawals. Severe headaches, red eyes, congestion. Brain fog, strong bouts of fatigue throughout the day. They've eased, but I've chalked it up to my body readjusting without large quantities of poison.

**Not medical advice, just my symptoms. The standard here recommend for the most part a medical treatment facility oversee your detox/withdrawals.
