Binge Drinking away the Depression
Hello. I'm a newcomer here. I'm 10 days sober after a little stay in the psyche ward for binge drinking and severe depression. I'm getting ready to start outpatient substance abuse treatment in a week, along with weekly counseling sessions. I started binge drinking about 3 years ago after some really bad things happened in my life. I'm excited to put the past behind me and move forward SOBER. I'm happy I found this forum. I think this will be a huge help.
Welcome
Tons of support here. I come here regularly throughout each day. Some posts inspire me, some are so sad and these remind me to keep on trucking sober.
Alcohol does nothing for my well being both mentally and physically. 121 days and I am looking forward to another 121 and another... and another.... and so on.

Great to have you with us, Spotlight. I drank to cope with emotions too - and found it just made everything worse. I used it to numb myself instead of dealing with what I was feeling and getting through troubled times in a healthy way. It causes us so much misery & anxiety.
Congratulations on your 10 days! Well done.

Welcome and good for you on 10 days! I have always found the first bit a bit dicey. But I did exactly what you are planning to do now and it got me a great foothold on recovery. After 2 months of that and a relapse, I went to a 6 week inpatient treatment and have a sponsor and go to meetings as often as I can.
You can do this. SR is a great 24/7 support. Do you have a daily recovery plan? This was crucial for me and something we worked extensively on in treatment (and also gets great emphasis on in these forums)
Glad you found us

Spot,
Welcome. This place save my life.
I binge drank in the end, before I quit for good.
I thought I was doing great, only drink a few times a month...it fried my brain and body.
Stay clean. It gets better. Relapse...it gets worse.
Drinking is a learned behavior. Unlearn it.

Hi spotlight,
The depression and anxiety I experienced over much of my life was exacerbated, and later completely caused by, drinking. It wasn't easy to see in the beginning, but the truth is getting rid of the alcohol was the single most effective treatment for those symptoms.
least, lol I love your link. I had the "Mothership Connection" album. Super groovy funk.
