I want help

I've been using opiates for so long I can barely remember what being sober feels like. I want to get clean, I just don't know how to deal with the mind**** of what to do when I'm stressed!!! The only time I feel normal is when I'm high, I want to get clean...I think I'm more scared of actually feeling things...Any advice

Talk to a doctor. They should be able to help you detox safely, then follow a recovery program such as NA or SMART.

Good luck many prayers for you.

Hi and welcxoem Rose - you'll find a lot of sup[port here.

It really made a difference to me to have a place I could come to any time of the day or night and instead of drinking or using I could ask for help or help others.

I hope you find it makes a difference too

Have you devised any type of game plan on how you are going to tackle this? Opiates are a formidable opponent but can be beaten. I wish you the best.

I've never had to get off opiates thank goodness... but I've kicked a lot of other stuff out of my life and having a CHOICE to do it and taking ACTION to support that choice was key.

AA / NA are great places to start. Get medical help too, if you are able.

You can be free of this.

Welcome, Rose!

One way or another our feelings come to the surface and have to be dealt with. Sure it's scary, but it's called living life. I tried to hide mine using alcohol, I can't stress enough what a mistake that was.

The point I'm making is drugs/alcohol make things so much worse. I guess you have to decide which avenue you're going to follow. I hope you take a leap of faith and get clean.

Lot's of us here will support you along the way.

Hi Rose, Welcome!

I think it's normal to feel very scared at the prospect of having to deal with life in sobriety, but you will be able to do it. We do understand.

It's understandable that one would wish to 'escape' when life feels unbearable. But, as we've heard over and over: "Feelings are not facts". Took me awhile to digest that.

Dealing with life on life's terms. That's a biggie. And it is not very fun sometimes. But that is what it means to be clean and sober. Life on life's terms. Does it always feel 'nice'? No. But using drugs/alcohol as your 'escape' is not answer and makes things worse...well, you know that. So, let yourself feel 'icky' when you feel icky and tell yourself it's a temporary feeling. It will pass.

Then, the need to find healthier ways to 'deal'. That's the ticket. Surely there was a time in your life that you did NOT turn to substances to deal with life. Perhaps it's time to get reaquainted with that.

Welcome to SR, Rose.

I don't know anything about opiates or opiate withdrawal but I DO know that you will find support and encouragement here.

So glad that you found us.
