a still, small voice.
a still, small voice.
Just wanted to share this gem from a friend in recovery. She's got lots of tools in her sobriety box of tricks, but like the best of us, sometimes it takes a little while to remember to use them when they're most needed.
Apparently there had been a clash of wills between her and her hubby before she whisked her children into the car to dispatch them at some sports club or another. As she was alternately grinding her teeth and snapping at all the other drivers on the road she heard a little voice pipe up from the back of the car...
"Mummy, maybe we should do a gratitude list!"
I did have a giggle at that, but I love that she's teaching her kids those strategies for turning thinking and emotions around, and that they're the ones smart enough to pop them into place when most needed.
Apparently the gratitude list worked a treat, and by the time she got home she was ready to be the first to make amends and restart the day.
Beautiful.

that's awesome.
last week my daughter, during a time of stress in our day, said something along the lines of "maybe we should have a day where we just say all the things we're thankful for".
So - deciding to borrow a concept from one of my favorite local AA meetings - I suggested we institute "GratiTuesdays".
The children are wise.
And..... they don't drink.

I have a 5 year old G'son. Recently while going to bed my daughter( his mom) praised him for being kind to a sibling. He replied; "If I am kind then maybe the person I am kind to will be kind and then that person will be kind. Pretty soon we will have a lot of people being kind to each other!"
I think when I hit around 35 I started to overthink everything.
