Post Find resources

Hi everyone,

I just discovered this site, it's great. Haven't been able to read all the threads yet, but found myself back in a few of them already.
Now to the subject: my husband is an alcoholic since teenage years (he's in his forties now), relies on it to overcome his stagefright - he is a musician. And for all the other usual reasons. He is finally willing to make a serious effort to get sober on a permanent basis. How can I find out about the best resources in New Orleans. Has anyone any experience with clinics or institutes in this area? I want to help and support him in any way I can.
thanks!
Newcomer Jule

Jule, welcome to the recovery forum. I would suggest a medically monitored detox at a clinic. I just happen to have very good one:

Dr. Oscar Carter Jr.
Memorial Rehabilitation Center
5500 North Johnson Street
New Orleans, Lousiana
504-949-2767

He probably need further treatment and he should begin to attend A.A. meetings. The people at the Rehabilitation Center will adise him as to how to get into the recovery process. As for yourself, for your health, well being and to properly support him. You should find and attend Al-Anon.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will give the Rehab Centre a call. Is there an Al Anon in New Orleans? A search on the web didn't come up with anything. And about AA for my husband: he actually did make some efforts some years ago and couldn't identify with the more religously oriented goals of this group. I just hope there are some recovery groups that have a different approach. Will keep you posted.
Thanks again
Jule

Jule, I want you to know that I love what you are doing. I think that you or your husband has taken the wrong attitude towards Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. G.O.D. stands for Good Orderly Direction and that is what A.A. gives to an alcoholic. They have a proven track record if you have a sincere desire to stop drinking, otherwise any excuse will do not to attend and participate. If you do not remember anything else in all your many conversations, remember this. You cannot tell help how to help you.(If you could do that you do not need the help). As for the Al-Anon meetings, you will have to call and follow up:

Baton Rouge 225-924-0029

Lafayette--318-233-1626

Metairie--Great New Orleans
3456 Jurgens Street
504-888-1356
