Heya, newbie here

Hey all, I'm a 24 year old female and I've been an alcoholic since I was 16, its really messed up my life and I've tried to quit so many times.

I'm currently 4 days sober, last drink was Saturday night and I'm exhausted, I've been drinking so many mugs of tea and at night I have a lot of water, I'm so wriggly and the thought of another night of not sleeping is terrifying. I used to drink up until I slept and passed out so going to bed sober means I don't fall asleep for about 6 hours...

Just thought I'd make an account and join for when times get tough and the only option I see is to go to the 24 hour convenience store down the road to buy some wine or cider

Welcome and good job on Day 4!

For sure, the early days are tough, but things should begin feeling better physically, very soon. I hope you continue to read here and post.

Congrats on 4 days! That is excellent. For sleep, I found that a small dose of melatonin was very helpful in my early days of recovery.

Good luck! Keep posting and reading.

Congrats on 4 days, I remember when I couldn't go more than 2 days.
I have read that tea contains more caffeine than coffee (normal tea, like English breakfast, earl grey etc). Maybe decrease your tea intake and you may find sleep comes easier?
I am a coffee drinker myself so switched to decaf later in the day while trying to decrease my intake. I think that worked for me, although the longer you stay off the booze, your body will go into healing mode and sleep is a great healer.
Some weeks I averaged only about 5 hours a night, other weeks I was hitting 8-9 hours.
Your sleep should balance out in time
Welcome to SR and keep posting xx

Congrats on 4 days! I'm new here, too - I'm 32, and have also been an alcoholic since age 16...which is half my life! Today is day 3 for me (even though I just made the decision to get sober for real yesterday).

I just found SR Monday night & it helped me to solidify my decision. There's SO much support here, I love this place already. I doubt I'd be giving a sobriety a real shot if I hadn't found SR.

Good luck to you. Keep posting, reading and responding.

Hi Daedrics!

Sleep will get better. Also, I've found getting a little daily activity helps the sleep come easier too. Nothing major even, just like a moderate walk with the dog.

Welcome Daedrics!
Congratz to your decision to get sober. I'm on day 5. My solution so far has been to work as much as possible - not a long-term solution but anything to just get through the first weeks. Second day was just horrible but it's a lot better now. Sleep - well, I hope it will improve eventually but I guess I'll just have to watch a lot of netflix until then :-).

Hi Daedrics and welcome to SR !

I'm pleased you chose to come here rather than the off licence.

It gets better really, there is a light at the end of the tunnel (and it isn't a train coming our way!)
