Cool Day 25

Good morning! I'm new to this. This is early stage recovery for me but also the very first time I've decided that alcohol no longer has a place in my life. It hasn't been easy, I wanted to climb the walls for the first 2 weeks. I've learned so many things in the past 25 days. So far, the journey is bringing loads of positive and i feel that i'm growing.
The gratitude I've found in sobriety is like nothing I've experienced before.
But there is something I'm worried about. My friends... they are drinkers. Especially a very close friend whom I used to spend a lot of time with (yes I know.. drinking!lol)
I've not seen her very much lately but yesterday she dropped in after spending the day at a festival in the city. She was drunk.
I do very much love her and always valued her friendship dearly.
But yesterday, i found myself becoming quite irritable and annoyed at having to deal with my drunk friend. She wasn't obnoxious or rude but she was repeating my name over and over and talking over and laughing a lot.
It scares me that i'm becoming an intolerant bitch! Really, i should know better.

Welcome, and congratulations on Day 25!

Early recovery is a time for change, and I think many of us have had to re-examine relationships in our lives to see what works for us and what is healthy for us, in recovery. Maybe you could see your friend a bit less for awhile, or suggest getting together for coffee?

Hi and welcome quietwaters

By the end of my drinking days most of my day to day friend were drinkers like me. Most of them disappeared when I got sober.

My real friends tho - they supported me getting sober - even those who drank and couldn't really understand why I was doing it.

If your friend is a true friend, you might have to go through a period of adjustment but it'll be ok

thank you

thanks for your feedback and warm welcome. It's definitely a period of adjustment which is necessary.
I'm now 4 weeks and very keen to stay sober. One day at a time. It does make it easier.
I've almost finished an audio book which I'm finding kind of helpful. It helps you remove the desire to drink.
Sober is the new black!
Otherwise, my minds are clearer, I sleep better and eat better. My best moment is early in the morning, waking up with a clear head and enjoying the peacefulness.
