Hi
I was on day 4 until today. I bought a bunch of beer earlier but after drinking 1 and a half cans ... I pictured myself waking up later after drinking the entire box hating myself and feeling sick .. so I threw it out.
But rewind to when I bought the beer ... playing the tape wasn't working ... I knew it was dumb when I went to get it .. I'm fortunate I threw it out but I'm not always that lucky ... I rarely throw it out .. most of the time I drink it.

Hi volshen - glad you stopped yourself
if playing the tape doesn't always work for you, what about incorporating some other tools into your recovery plan?
Urgesurfing, HALT, posting here first, other things from this link
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-cravings.html
or real life support like AA or some other recovery group?

There are some other really good ideas for recovery plans here too:

Hi Volshen
I'm glad you stopped drinking when you did. My mind would become so fixated on going to buy alcohol that I would only half listen to the tape. As, Dee said, I would have to add other things in order to make it work. I found that changing my routine, especially my evening routine really helped. I'm glad you're back.

Good that you were able to catch yourself & stop. Once I started I never could - I was always in danger after the first one. It was a relief to be free of it & never gamble anymore. I'm glad you posted, Volshen.
Of course, your addiction (and yes, it speaks to you in words and images) will probably minimize the likelihood of bad outcomes, and suggest that bad things might not happen if you drank, since they don't always happen.
Better to make up your mind once, ahead of time, and to fall back on that decision instead of asking your addiction "what if?"
