Question new and looking for advice

So,i've pretty much explained my situation on my profile,...but i guess i could just ask a simple question : What is the weirdest or scariest adverse effects you have ever gotten from being an alcoholic ???

Welcome. I don't usually engage in the alcoholic equivalent of "You show me yours, I'll show you mine."

Whatever adverse effects you've had, they've brought you here and seeking sobriety. Good luck with that. Wisest decision I made was quitting drinking.

Hi TheShortGuy

Profile pages aren't really made for long posts

i'm a 26 year old,5'2" tall male. started drinking beer at age 14 and over the years,it went from moderate/binges on and off (as any young pre-teen would) on and off not drinking, then,as i reached 17-20 it progressively got worse ! now,26 i can't tak
I'm not sure how my weirdest or scariest effect will help you tho.

Something bought you here - why not lay out your problem here - you're among people who understand.

Hi..I suspect every affect of alcohol you can possibly imagine has been felt by someone one here... the common thread of folk in here is that they want that to be over... no more wondering, hurting, scared, desperate, illness...
There are people on here on day 1, and in year 26... people struggling and people who have found a way... this site will help you enormously if you let it. Ask questions, share your thoughts, reach out!!!

What are u worried about?

Something needs to change

Hello peeps, I just signed up here because I think it is time for a change. I've been drinking and smoking weed regularly since I was 18. By the time I was 20, I drank and smoked every day. I'm 32 now still doing the same thing. Sometimes I tell myself that I got it all under control because I work out a lot and try to eat healthy. But I just drink about 5 beers + a little bit of Vodka on weekends and about 3 glasses of red wine during the week.

I want to stop drinking during the week or maybe just one glass of red wine and less on weekends. Has anybody managed to reduce their drinking (and/or smoking) and how do you manage to resist on a daily basis? I really want to change my life, but I just can't stop...

Like I said on your other thread I found not drinking at all way easier than trying to moderate my drinking - which I never managed to do for long.

I'm afraid you'll find that the overwhelming story here, livebetter,

D

The most adverse effects of my drinking were waking up feeling horrible and hating myself - every day. It was no way to live.

Glad to meet you Theshortguy. We're all in this together - and we understand.

Blackouts were the most terrifying, life threatening things that happened to me. I'd forget entire evenings - but appear coherent to those around me.

It's great to have you with us - please keep posting & reading.

I'm new too. My worst thing at the moment is I get pain in my upper right quadrant. I've had liver scans,, gallbladder scans and a pancreas test with dye (& a scan) and I've just had an endoscopy with clear results. What I do know is that if I don't drink the pain seems to go. It hasn't been enough to make me stop (& it's really painful). I'm on my first day without wine & spirits today. I'm a bit terrified. I hope we can stick with this! I joined in 2013, I haven't tried enough in all of these years to get better. I'm hoping this time I'll stay and be in recovery in the next months & beyond.

Welcome back Bubblygirl

Pain and fear weren't usually enough to keep me sober either...not for long anyway...

but being a regular poster here - and joining a few group threads like the current Class of February support thread foe example - really was a game changer for me.

It was a real revelation to me to see that people dealt with the same things I did and not only did they stay sober but they preferred being sober!

I leaned a lot of their support and in time I gave support to others...and slowly the real me (as opposed to the drunk me) began to reemerge.

It wasn't a quick fix...but it was a good one - ten years on I'm still committed to remaining in recovery, where once I couldn't make it 3 days without a drink.

Thanks, I'll look at that February group thread. I'm hoping everything you say it true. I'm tired of feeling this way (as many of us are) and I hate the idea of being out/doing anything like socialising ever again! My sister is taking me to an AA meeting tomorrow night, she said it has helped her. I'll be looking at other things (books) and staying on here too thanks

I had similar. I never worked out what it was either and I had similar barrage of tests. It's gone now - since I stopped drinking
My liver function test results were always on the bad end of the scale too, to the point where I was advised to stop drinking (which I never did). They've gone back to normal after a year in the program.
Welcome, you're in the right place!
