A thought to share
Hi all-
Today is my 8th day sober. I know I’m a newbie and all but I wanted to share something that has really helped me over the past week, in case this could help anyone else.
I was listening to this pastor named Levi Lusko. I’m not sure if he is the original source of this quote, but he said, “Stop focusing on what you shouldn’t be doing, and start concentrating on what you know you should be doing.”
This was relevant to me because it has helped me to stop focusing so much on what I shouldn’t be doing (drinking, missing drinking, wanting to drink, feeling sorry for myself that I can’t drink). Instead, I have been concentrating on what I know I should be doing (having sober conversation/interactions with my family, working, reading for knowledge and enjoyment, eating healthy, exercising, writing, etc).
Anytime a thought of alcohol invades my mind, I am trying my best not to linger on it and instead replacing the thought with a productive idea/planning or activity.
I hope this makes sense, haha. Anyways, just wanted to share the thought. Have a great day!

Well done on 8 days. That was an eternity to me when I first quit.
I think that Levi Lusko's advice is sound. Instead of focusing on denying ourselves something, focus on the positive. Be grateful for small things. It's hard to initially put into practice but if you take small steps, every day, it gets easier.
Thank you for sharing that.

Thats the reason I can't do AA.
Whatever you fucus on expands.
At least according to Louise Hay and other teachers.
By keeping my focus on my perceived flaws, Im actually attracting more of the same.
The subconscious mind doesn't hear "no drinking" or "do not drink". It just registers drink.
AA keeps me focused on the problem, so I'm learning another way.
Thanks for the post.
