I've seen a few people around over the years who were prescribed Baclofen - I hope you will hear from them about their experience.

Have you tried other things in the past bhudsontuck?

No one here can tell you to take it or not take it - we can only share experience if we have any.

Is your husbands Dr your Dr too?

Hi bhudsontuck I have a very positive view of this medication. I'm nearly 11months sober this time and have had absolutely zero cravings for alcohol.

I also regularly attend AA, excercise when I can, and make sure that I eat well. I started taking baclofen after reading Olivier Ameisens book "The End of My Addiction" and finding a doctor willing to prescribe it.

I'm on a very low dose now and this value varies greatly from one individual to another. It is not a panacea on its own without a commitment to sobriety, but it is a tremendous help in my opinion. I have to say that life for me is wonderful today and I'm sure baclofen played a part in achieving that.

Very best wishes to you.

I tried baclofen - the method by which one is supposed to titrate the dosage up until the cravings for drink stop and one becomes indifferent. I don't think I'm allowed to post links to outside web sites but there are a couple of baclofen related forums out there, including one I helped set up.

I know people who have successfully stopped drinking using baclofen alone, but it didn't work for me. There are a few reasons why it didn't and why it is not an easy route.

Firstly I is not widely prescribed and many people have had a great deal of difficulty getting their medics to prescribe it - certainly at the high dosage that seems to do the trick for many. Because of that many people order the baclofen on-line and that is troublesome as I discovered, especially at the volumes needed

Thirdly, in my case, though not everyone's I found the side effects too much. Baclofen is prescribed for central nervous system conditions and is 'off label' for alcohol abuse, It affected me in a number of unpleasant ways.

If I may at the very least place a link to a book by the man who 'discovered' baclofen as a treatment - please take it or leave it. I'm not recommending baclofen - even remotely.

The End Of My Addiction: How one man cured himself of alcoholism by Olivier Ameisen
