Help, I relapsed again

Hello Everyone, I just came out of a 3 day bender on red wine, could not sleep last night and spend 8 hours going through the forums. Also going through divorce, started a new job couple of months ago. Day 1 for me.

I feel that there is a lot of support here, currently living by myself and that is making even tougher for me. Thank you in advance for all the help and resources. Need some motivation!

I've only been attending groups for a few weeks now, but almost every person I've met has relapsed, and learned from it, at some point. One guy said to me it sort of helped him because it made him finally realise he can't have one drink.
Life stresses are what made me drink. I find my SMART group a comfort as I am also living alone at the moment. Hang in there because soon you will feel better

In fact they would call that a lapse, not a relapse, if you can stop now.

Thank you Daisy, I guess relapse is a part of recovery. I just dumped my unopened bottle of wine.

You are stronger than you think, that's amazing. You could have been tempted to drink some to ease your jangled nerves or whatever, that's what I always did anyway. Awesome :-)

Welcome back AbOriginal. Relapse is not part of recovery, it's part of drinking, right? Sorry to hear you are going through a lot in life now, but as you've just found out drinking only makes it all worse. How can we help?

Last week I had a (re)lapse after close to 5 month, just one evening. OK, happend, but whats more important, to me I came back right the next day and this time it will be stronger and I will be better educated.

If you are going thru a divorce and a new job a lapse could even happen to superman himself. But if you will come back sober stronger, that will be a hell of a performance and you will get all my respect. Besides, whats more beautyful than a strong comeback?

Thank you for sharing Thom, I guess practice makes perfect . I just hope I am strong enough to make that comeback. I guess it is my 1st day so I am having the anxiety.

You will find a lot of that here. Have you considered joining the Class of January thread? Sometimes having a peer group really helps, even if it is a virtual community.

Step 1 - Forgive yourself for the relapse
Step 2- Pick yourself up - start over again - figure out what caused the relapse/why and deal with it differently the next time

Good Luck - you can do it!

Thank you flguy1, I have been able to try to figure it out as well. What made me want my 1st drink. Because after that 1st drink all bets are off.

Sounds like you have the right idea Ab - do you have any ideas on how you might stay sober? a plan?

First AA Meeting

Hello Dee, just came back from the AA meeting, everyone was friendly, also got a couple of numbers and the list of all the meetings. Was also invited to meeting on Wed. I am planning to goto a meeting everyday and hopefully a couple of meetings on both Saturday and Sunday.

its hard alone

{currently living by myself**

Hi AbOriginal,

From personal experience its super hard trying to quit alone. I know Ive tried and failed countless times.

Whether you decide on AA or any other plan of recovery try to ensure you meet people who have a shared desire to stop drinking. I can only speak from personal experience.. but as soon as I started hitting the meetings, it was so much easier to stop.

I hope you find a lasting path to sobriety,
