Well I think I have reached a milestone, not so much as in time but in sobriety. I went on a long trip with a bunch of friends. Many of the evenings involved drinking beer but they drink normally. I realized that I really wasn't thinking about drinking with them and even more shockingly I was having a good time. I know I will never be totally free of the grip alcohol has on me and I will always be vigilant. Right now though I am the strong one. My AV is weak and for now has little control over me or what I do.

I do not say these things lightly or To boost of my accomplishments it's to reach out to all of you that are struggling. It can be done. I am the same as you and day by day I am finding my way. At times there is so much pain on this forum that I think about it all day. You can get your life, family, career or what ever else alcoholism has taken from you back, I'm proof of that. It starts with day one and I wish the best to you all.

Good for you! So cool to look back and see all the things we got thru sober. I have found myself at dinner with people and I forget they are even drinking alcohol. Still aware sometimes but not that strong force like it was at the beginning. Keep going!!

The AV may become quiet at times, but as long as I hear it and never listen to It, I win, yeah?
Far too long I heard and listened, Its game was up the day I realized I didn't have to listen.

Congratulations, that is definitely a major milestone. Thanks for sharing, you are right there is a lot of negativity and struggle on here, and it's good to hear some of the positives, too
