Uplift, positive, You are amazing thread

I spent far too much time wasted upon negative self talk, those days are over, and compliance with sobriety or not has zero to do with it.

I don't care if you are just contemplating sobriety or have many years sober, or anything in between, the bottom line you are defined with how you think about yourself, good, bad or otherwise.

You are amazing, good, decent worthy of love and respect here. Of the rest of the world doesn't see it, its theirs to lose....

I am amazing because I choose to help others in what ever capacity I can, even when the times are tough, I still go out of my way to help. You are as well, same capacity if nit now, will be doing so after you heal.

I've seen people go from derelict, living on the street to in charge of major operations, nobodies lot in life is set forever. I've seen bullies and thugs get God and live a life of humanitarian service. I have seen so much more... Tell your story, let myself and others uplift you, believe in you even if you don't in yourself, others, inspire, show your great big positive can do self.... Blessings, strength and hope to all of you!

"I spent far too much time wasted upon negative self talk"

Far too easy to get caught up in that cycle. I do think it's a trap we fall into and then, as you say, define ourselves by.

A couple of years ago I did this thing where I picked an uplifting and inspiring quote for each day and wrote it in a date book at the top of the page:

"Life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself."
"The future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow."
"It is never too late to be what you might have been."
"Your big opportunity may be right where you are now."
"Bad feelings, no matter how strong or 'ugly,' are not a part of who you are. They are the radio stations your mind listens to if you don't give it something better to do."

I think changing the way we talk to ourselves can be a huge key in overcoming addiction or achieving most any other goal we might set for ourselves. :-)

What an amazing and warm set of responses and people. Thank you all!

When I was younger I read the book, "The power of positive thinking" it teaches how our self talk is critical to control, how the brain is like a computer, positive or negative programming produces the same results.

Thank you again, amazing awesome people!
