Every moment you spend sober is never lost
Every moment you spend sober is never lost
I've been reading a lot of threads lately with people beating themselves up over relapsing. Of course it's only human to feel down on yourself but that's when it's important to pick yourself up and get right back at it.
Relapse should never be part of recovery but you will never lose those sober moments. In fact, they are crucial because those are what will teach you what you did right and wrong and assists in planning for next time.
I know how hard it is to start over when you count days. Believe me, I know. I sit in meetings with people who will have 4 years this year as would have I. However, I refuse to look at it that way. The almost 18 months I had taught me how good it feels to be sober and where things went awry so it doesn't happen this time.
So, please. I know you feel bad about it but let that feeling pass and get right back on the horse again.
You CAN do this. Every sober moment is a building block to long term success. NEVER GIVE UP!

The only way you can ever lose all you've achieved and learned in sobriety is to willfully throw it away.
A relapse could be the precursor to another few years lost and out there - but it doesn't have to be.
Get up, come back, think about all you've learned and accomplished, tweak your recovery plan accordingly - and recommit to your recovery

I had 6 years sober, many years ago, and then relapsed for 20 something years.
I never forgot those sober years and I don't believe they were for nothing.
Remembering how great I felt during that time played a big part in my motivation to get back to sober life so many years later.
Just gone 2 years sober and this time I am NOT giving it up, no way, no how, not for anything.
Thanks for a great post, LadyBlue
