Just a glass of wine
Just a glass of wine
As I lay in bed drifting in and out of sleep this early morning, I had a dream.
In an airport, I walked up to a counter and saw a familiar bartender in a restaurant. He picked up a bottle of wine and said 'the usual, bud?'.
I grim feeling came over me. I knew better. I said 'yeah, sure I'll have a glass.'
I wrestled internally, knowing I didn't want this. He said 'our standard pour is three glasses... you want them all?'.
I said... 'no, give the third to one of the staff. Just give me two'.
Then I woke up. Unsettled. Frustrated.
But so grateful it was only a dream.
I really don't like those dreams.

Not fun. But it WAS just a dream!
I haven't had them in awhile but have had two or three very vivid dreams that either involve drinking (though I just found detritus not actually drank) or associated chaos when I "woke up that morning." One really shook me and I can't tell you how relieved I was to find a kitchen counter and living area clean of any alcohol and crap that would have typically been there.
The only things I asked myself were what was bugging me, and did I need to sort through some kind of disturbance or feeling or situation with another person (my dad was in one of the dreams).
Hang in there!!

I'm just starting my alcohol recovery and glad such dreams haven't set in, but I still have such dreams about marijuana. I quit 8 years ago and the dreams still come up roughly once a month, not sure they'll ever go away but I finally did start to become aware of them as dreams as they happened and they became less upsetting. Best wishes

Coincidentally I had a dream last night about going to a convenience store and rummaging around in the beer section. That was disturbing. Luckily, in the dream the cans that looked like my usual (former) beer were actually a different product that seemed to be a mix of pureed cabbage, jalapeno mustard and Coca Cola.
Also, FreeOwl's OP reminded me of the bartender in The Shining.

The more you saturate your mind, heart
and soul with recovery then it will soon
reflect back in ur dreams. You will be
confronted with alcohol and emmediately
use the knowledge, experiences, strengths
in turning it down and passing on what
you live and have learned onto the other
person.
Or, simply say no thank you I'm in AA
or recovery or that its poison then wake
up knowing that you are absolutely living
recovery even in your dreams and feel
extremely grateful for that gift you live
each day sober.

In these past 11 months I have had 2 dreams in which I drank. I was so disappointed in myself for drinking in them both. I forgave myself, but was so very glad when I woke up I realized I had not had anything to drink. Like crisis averted, whew!
