A person, either through ignorance or innocence, falls into a deep, dark hole where they encounter a hideous, slobbering monster that is slowly stripping the flesh from their bones, sucking the very life-force from their souls. All they can do is sit and cry as the monster has its way.
A person walking by hears their cries, lowers a rope and call down: Grab hold and climb out!
The person looks up from their misery, eyes the rope and calls back:
Can you give me evidence this is the best rope possible?

I think that there's far too much protectionism of member's preferred path to sobriety here.
