Slip

Hi everyone. I had a slip after 140 days over Christmas. 3 beers and PAWs right back big time. The leg itch still here effecting sleep.painful as F. Bain fog, dizziness and other symptoms all returned. At least i know now i am ilergic 100% to the poison. Just had to test it like an idiot. New plan now, keep away from old drinking buddies and pub. Had to delay return to work and big problems now financially and with missus. Bloods all good, but head is melting. Any thoughts, 3 beers OMG and square 1 ????? Thanks.

Glad you made it back.

What's your plan this time? You know you will feel better physically after a little bit, so what will you do then?

You can make this your last new start.

Glad you got right back to it carlingford. It's unfortunate you had to test it, but I understand it as well. I did it twice. Crazy thing is, I tested it because I wanted the excitement, the buzz, the zen feeling to be there, and it was gone. All that happened is that I got tired and a bit hungry and fell asleep. What kind of fun is that? Its not. So I quit.

Don't beat yourself up over this slip. Just move forward.

In 2013 I quit drinking and lasted 117 days until I had some beer.

I felt like such a loser after that - mostly because it wasn't worth losing my sobriety for that drink.

I managed to just drink here and there after that but a few months later I was back to heavy alcohol abuse that lasted almost 3 more years.

Today I am 75 days sober and feeling great after 27 years of daily drinking.

Hi Doug39 thanks for your response, and well done on 71 Day glad you feeling better.

"mostly because it wasn't worth losing my sobriety for that drink."

exactly...... it was not worth it !!!! now I am still suffering PAWS and don't know if its the cycle of PAWS or the effect of the 3 beers.

Anyway, its history now and moving on at 12 days clean again.

But keep wondering if it is the 3 beers that has me feeling crap....
Did the 3 beers blow away all the brain reconnections of 140 days?
Any thoughts anyone?

All I remember is feeling tremendous guilt over starting to drink again; when I had a few beers I just didn't enjoy it.

One of the main reasons I started drinking again was because my wife and all my friends were heavy drinkers and I was tired of being the oddball that just sat there sipping a Coke.

This time things are different. I need my sobriety to survive and I don't care what anyone else does, says or thinks.

Thanks Doug, I feel exactly the same way, I have "crossed the Rubicon" and no way back as my body and brain cannot take even a few beers anymore. My wife is very supportive Thank God as I know I can be a bit cranky and abstract in my recovery especially when I don't get a good sleep The only way for me now is complete abstinence for the rest of my life. I know I will a lot happier when I get a few months behind me when brain fog lifts again and back working. I am hoping that happens sooner and trying to live a healthy life style now.

Sounds like a plan but don't put that pressure on yourself by saying NEVER.

One Day at a Time.

Sometimes crap has to happen for you to truly believe and accept you have a thinking problem and alcohol is no longer a solution for you. Good work putting it behind you and you'll rack up another 140 days before you know it!

Doug39 I think is correct. You had a slip. Your sobriety is essentially intact.

I agree with this. It is not like you went on a bender. You had a slip and learned something from it. Also, this sort of thing is very common in even the most successful of recoveries. Don't beat your self up about it. In fact, I would not even characterize you as having to "start over." This is all part of the process, and you have been Sober for quite some time.
