8 Days in the bag.....Working on Day 9!

And like another poster, today is my first day back at work. Having some anxiety, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Was able to get ok sleep last night -- woke up every three hours, but got about 6 1/2 hours total. Not bad consider I did not take any sleep aids. Anxiety ebbs and flows.

Interesting comparison though. Over the last several months a typical morning like this would be me waking up in a total panic after a horrible night of sleep replete with night sweats, racing thoughts, and panic (the only way I got "decent" sleep was taking 50-75 mg. of Xanax to help sleep). My hands would be shaking as I check my e-mails on my phone. No later than 8:30 a.m. I would pick up some wine, and would have downed at least a bottle no later than noon, but typically by 11 a.m.

This morning, I was thinking a bunch about work, but only thought about wine to the extent I thought about how I would normally want some. This morning, I did not. In fact, I swung by Starbuck's to get a grande non-fat cappuccino. And I feel much better, and definitely more alert.

So, it appears things are getting a bit better. I am sure there will be swings, but right now, things are DEFINITELY much better than they were 2 weeks ago. In fact, light years better.

Horn, I'm glad you are seeing things improve and it sounds like you're doing well. The slow and steady pace is how my early recovery went, too. I didn't have a 'pink cloud' period, and I think that was kind of a good thing because things just moved slowly forward.

You sound really good, Horn. Glad to see that.

The longer the period of continuous abstinence, the easier it gets and the better you'll feel. You're going to amaze yourself.

Awesome

Day 8 is awesome! Well done! I'm in my first two weeks - similar experiences with the anxiety coming and going. I've heard from others here about how the sleep issues begin to get better over time. I love how you are focusing on all of the good things you are seeing right now too! That inspired me to do the same.

Note to self, stay away from espresso drinks in early recovery (not that there will ever be another one). Anxiety has hit me hard the last couple of hours -- but admittedly, I have a high-stress occupation. But I will not run for a drink. I am going to go get hot tea to settle me down. Btw, I highly recommend peach tranquility from Starbucks. It has some chamomile, and really works to help calm me down.

Congrats on 8 days Horn95. Excellent!

And thank you for the tea tip, I'm just sipping on my Pukka Night Time tea.

Great stuff horn! If you haven't already it maybe a good time to use this positivity to build a solid recovery plan, it really helped me when AV tried to bounce back.
