Hello. Introduction.
Hello. Introduction.
Hi. I just registered, but have been reading on here for awhile. Seems like a really good and supportive community. I am a 50 year old man who has found my drinking to have escalated and gotten worse over the past year after a divorce, and other life changes. Same story....one drink is too many and fifteen is not enough. This has been a trend for the last 25 years. Cycle through and stop drinking (I have had several times where I have gone 2 years alcohol free), but then I convince myself I don't have an issue....end up right back where I started.
Moderation is not an option, and I have accepted the fact that I am an alcoholic. I am looking forward to not just abstaining, but also learning how to live a sober life. I am fully aware that without dealing with the underlying issues that lead me to using alcohol to cope, I will be right back out there AGAIN.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello, as well as THANK YOU for being here. (I did find the link on here regarding "creating a plan", knowing that words are one thing, but action leads to actual results). Happy New Year. Look forward to being here with you all.

Welcome, and you are right, this is a good place to be. I never thought moderation would work for me though I've had moments where I thought one glass might taste good........sober sense reminded me that it just wasn't worth it. Easier for my brain to handle the idea of "No." Glad you are here!
Welcome to SR, Circlewagons. Great first post.
Glad that you found that great thread on the importance of a Plan.

Welcome circlewagons, I hope you are able to achieve your goal of sobriety in 2017. I'm about your age and what it required from me was to make it my #1 priority in life. Any half-measures did not work. Wishing you the best.
Great to meet you, Circlewagons. I'm so glad you've decided to make this big change in your life.
I was older too when I realized my drinking was going to destroy me if I didn't take action. What had once been fun and relaxing had become a necessity. I was completely dependent on it. Thankfully, this community gave me the encouragement I needed to stop my life long habit. Not feeling alone anymore made all the difference to me. Welcome!

Thank you everyone for a warm welcome. Such positive words of encouragement. I made a big pot of soup today for the New Year. Something about comfort food. Going to hunker down and read the links and other references provided, and get a good nights sleep.
