Newcomer?
Not sure I am a newcomer to wanting to quit.
I have been in and out of AA several times in the past 20 years.
My longest time sober is 98 days before I relapsed.
I got sick and tired of being sick and tired 18 days ago. Have been going to lots of meetings. I am also looking for all I can find to help me online.
Never used books or the internet to help me in previous attempts at becoming sober for life, other than the Big Book. However, with searching online I am reading at least a book on recovery every few days. Finding helpful websites like this one.
And am going online several times a day to find more help.

Hello and welcome,Darbh.
Glad you found this site.
You know, before I found this site I went 14 month sober before falling back down the rabbit hole. Now I've been sober for 3 1/2 years.
I think the site helps a lot as you can talk with folks that have been through it.
And there's always somebody here to talk with(world wide).
You've taken the biggest step and searched for websites that help you.
Glad you're here.

Darbh, welcome to SR! Congrats on wanting to quit. Keep posting and reading, especially the 'Stories of Recovery' forum on here. It's very inspiring to read the stories of those just like you and I, who have overcome and now have a beautiful, meaningful purpose in this world. I hope you find that you can be open and honest about sobriety, and ask any questions you may have. We're all here for you.
What is your plan for sobriety this time around? Most on here, including myself, believe a good plan is key to staying sober. How will you deal with cravings? What will you do when you're pushed by others? Have a plan ahead of time to deal with those, so you aren't pressured to give in.

Hi, and welcome.
I've used this forum along with AA to stay sober, and learn how to make my sobriety comfortable and sustainable, and now preferable to drinking.
If you're considering AA again, another online resource that you might find useful is the recovery speaker recordings. There are lots on youtube, and I use this website to listen to them or download them onto a little MP3 player so just can listen in whenever I've got downtime or feel the need... http://www.recoveryaudio.org/
Wishing you all the best for your sobriety and recovery. BB

Darbh,
Welcome.
18 days is a solid start.
This site educated me on the science of my addiction to booze.
I stayed sober 20 months and counting by analyzing my addiction.
After detox, about a months or so, I started healing. I am still getting stronger.
I crave at odd times. But, it goes away quickly now. For the first several months, the crave lasted longer.
It has taken a long long time for my brain's dopamine levels to ramp up. I get happy all the time now....for good reasons and for no reason. AA may call it serenity.
I work out a bit. Not drinking has allowed me to take my fitness level way up.
In closing for now, I am not out of the woods. My sobriety must remain at a priority level just below breathing. It is easier now to stay sober, but I have read about regretful relapses after 20 years clean.
Stay clan. Read and post. This place saved my life.
Thanks.

Well done I learnt about something called AVRT which has helped me a lot. And also coming to a decision that I really want to stop and that alcohol does me a fair bit of damage so it would be wise to stop. I also have things in place such as exercise, reading, and soon starting a job that will give me some purpose.
Welcome Darbh, glad you found SR! This is a great resource with lots of friendly and knowledgeable people who are genuinely willing to help and who are interested in your sobriety.
I've leaned on the good folks here a lot over the past two years and I am definitely better off for it.
Hang in there!
