SR First Night/New Year Party!

Welcome, everyone, to the SR First Night and New Year Party!

Have you ever been to a First Night celebration? It is filled with music, theater, and art...

Beginning at noon, I'll be serving a seafood lunch beginning with an arugula, pear, and gorgonzola salad, crab cakes with aioli sauce, and asian-inspired salmon with ginger green beans.

For the Adventurous among you:

From 1 p.m. until 1 a.m.: If you would like, shuttles run every 15 minutes from here to take you to various venues around town. The Philharmonic is performing, but there are also Jazz shows, Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll, and Country/Bluegrass venues.

If music is not your thing today, then all of the local museums are open! So if you want an art show or some local history, there is something for you!!

If you like theater, the local university has quite a good theater company at the moment, and they are putting on a performance of Shakespeare's As You Like It.

At midnight, the firework show begins!!

Don't forget to pick up your wristbands on the table by the door when you leave after lunch!!!

For the Homebodies among you:

Yes! There will be snacks galore!

Please come and share something you enjoy! You can bring your board games, your legos, whatever you like! Do you have a favorite record or piece of music you can share? How about some art project you've been working on? The piano keyboard is out for those who would like to get together and sing. Are you a storyteller? I love having someone read aloud or tell a story <3!

The Canoe is still ready to go...

After dark, floating lumieres will be launched on the little lake here...

...and there will be sparklers for everyone!

Please join us! Take a break, relax, and enjoy for a few minutes or all day and night if you'd like...

I thought I would start by sharing a piece of music that I really enjoy. It's the Sinfonia from Part II of Bach's Christmas Oratorio.

(P.S. When you share you music here, please just share the link and don't embed the videos! We don't want to get in trouble with the management )

Seren, that all sounds like so much fun! I was not familiar w/First Night celebrations and had to google it. Thank you for the kind invitation. And I look forward to seeing all my SR friends again!

Give me a little time to put things in order here and I'll be on my way over. Is there anything particular you'd like a hand with?

Oh, my goodness, how will I ever decide what to do, w/so many fascinating choices...?

Absolutely, Maudcat! Just tell the shuttle driver to drop you off at that venue! Enjoy

At your convenience, honeypig And sure! Can you show folks the library in case they just want to curl up with a good book? I have all kinds of books here! Fiction, history, philosophy, theology, sports, poetry and in French, Welsh, German and Italian as well as English. And let me know when that fire starts to get low...it is a little chilly here today

Anvil, after your cheese antics at Christmas, you've made your own cheese bed and now you have to lie in it!

My sister has a similar reputation regarding bacon--when XAH and I would bring 7-layer salad to family gatherings, we would literally leave the bacon locked in the car, assembling the salad moments before we were going to eat, or sis would pick out all the bacon!

Seren...would it be o.k. if I just lie on the couch and play some Parliament funkadelic...while I watch my Buns of Steel exercise tape?
I plan to war my fur hat and high heeled sneakers....

Okay I can't bring my entire theatre company along, but if anyone would like to engage in a little collaborative storytelling today I'd be happy to run a Dungeons & Dragons game! Nothing says New Years to me like slaying a few monsters and finding a few treasure chests!

Some of us (i.e. me) have to go to work. Can I take a party favour instead to cheer myself up?
