"what's your plan?"

I'm going to ramble on for a bit here so, read if you wish.

Just got back from my normal AA meeting and it was packed! Normal attendance for the morning meeting is 5-9 people, today was about 15. It's held in a small bungalow so, space is limited. I've 'shared since day 1 of going and have no issues with talking/meeting new people,ect.. Today I decided I would just listen and "think" since there were so many people I had never met.

As I was "thinking", I thought of you guys and when I first signed up here. I wanted to quit drinking then and was asked "what's your plan?". At the time I didn't get it. My "plan" was to stop drinking, duh. Yeah...that didn't work. I now know and see what it is to have a plan. Had I listened to you guys about that in 2014, I wouldn't have gotten that 2nd dui, wrecked my truck, lost my license,ect..Basically all the carnage I caused could have been avoided with a solid plan. Had I went to a meeting before being forced to by the courts, which I'm so blessed to have discovered, I could have avoided a lot of heartache caused by not having a plan. So, for the newcomers.. I can attest to the importance of having a solid plan and sticking with it!
Welp... Those are my thoughts! Stay sober and Happy New Year everyone!
DR

good stuff. I know all of what you are feeling. If I would've just committed to a plan when I first went in to a meeting in feb 2012, I could've saved my house, my relationship, jobs, you name it. But they all say we have a journey. And our journey is ours and it takes what it takes to surrender.

you are here now. that is what matters. Glad you are home.

My plan(I'm sure it'll change as I continue to do):

1) Don't pick up. EVER!

2) Attend AA meetings daily.( I enjoy going and listening/talking at different meetings for perspective)

3) Get a sponsor and work the 12 steps.

4) Morning and nightly meditation.

5) Hit the gym 5days/wk.

6) Cut out all negative friends from my life and surround myself with a strong support system.

7) Keep AA in my life until I die.

Like I said.. I'm sure I'll add some tweaks here and there as I continue to 'grow' but, that's what I'm working with currently. I'm also not really 'churchy' and have been shocked at how positive my outlook on life is after leaving a meeting. Very theraputic.
