Wake-up Call
Wake-up Call
Good morning SR friends!
This morning on my way into work, I was traveling a rural 2 lane road when a car coming from the opposite direction crossed the double yellow line and was 3/4 of the way in my lane. I slammed on the brakes, swerved to the "shoulder" of the road and laid on the horn. When I looked in my rearview mirror to see if that driver had corrected, it took them about 20 car lengths to get back in their lane.
Immediately, I felt gratitude! Gratitude that I was able to successfully avoid a nearly catastrophic accident. I began immediately expressing gratitude. Thankful beyond measure. Just 12 days ago I could have been so hungover that I couldn't have handled the situation in the same manner, or worse, I could have had some "hair of the dog" before leaving the house to "right" my hangover and then not only would I be a mangled mess, I also would be facing a DUI.
No sooner had I finished expressing my gratitude when I hear the AV saying: "Oh, wow, that was scary!! You're going to have a panic attack! You're going to need a drink to get through it...there is some in the office. Just ONE drink. You NEED it!" I responded with "Didn't you just hear my gratitude?!?! You're NOT going to win!! Hush it up! I was able to avoid this because I'm DONE with you and your nonsense!"
So today I declare a victory! I may be powerLESS over my addiction to alcohol today, I am powerFUL over my AV!! This is empowering beyond belief!! I came into the office knowing there is alcohol in the refrigerator, but the thought of touching it was revolting. I turned on some music and began reading through SR and mentally composing this post. I can't thank SR and each of you enough for all of the support!!

Someone cut me off on the way to work today! They switched into my lane [on a busy 4 lane highway] with their back of the car a few inches [or less?] from the front of mine. I'm not sure if they saw me and that's why they switched over when they did? I was am also glad i wasn't impaired.
Glad you are ok, aside from the scare at the time!

Hope, Grateful you are okay! Good reminder that being sober makes us safer, not just when we might have been drunk but in the days that follow, when we might be digging our way out of a hangover, by drinking ourselves back in to drunkeness.
