Dry heaving / retching

Hi, sorry if this is TMI (too much information) but I am on Day 2 after a stupid three day binge ... I can't stop dry heaving ( i.e. Throwing up but there nothing to come up except bile ). Has anyone had this and , if so, how long does it go on ?
Thanks .

Yep this is normal after drinking a lot

It stops when you stop drinking it starts when you start drinking

Good job on day 2 hopefully you will feel better as the days pass

Would be a good idea to check in with a dr & let them know your sober when the sickness passes

You don't ever have to be sick like this again

Yes it happened to me. Sorry you have to go through it! I'm not a medical professional, but I always just waited it out. when you finally stop get yourself some gaterade or pedialite for the dehydration.

It shouldn't last more than 24 hours but if it does I would seek professional advice.

The early days can be tough but it does get better.

Yep. Your insides get destroyed by the booze and I was at the point once I couldn't even keep water down. Try to eat what you can, but it will pass.

Oh, how I remember this.

I got to the point that swallowing was so hard- when I could eat, I had to take very small bites and avoided certain foods- and couldn't take most pills. That went on a lot of the time as I kept drinking.

When I stopped, it took a few weeks to stop completely - I was VERY sick.

After a couple of days the alcohol is literally out of your body; symptoms vary from person to person so how long this happens to you is not something we can tell you. I saw a good team of drs when I quit drinking (10+ mo ago) and addressed everything that was going on with me.

The only solution is to stay sober.

Good luck.

I wouldn't try to eat anything as if it's gastritis (inflammation) it will just cause more stomach upset & nausea

With me it lasted 3-5 days of sickness lessening towards the end

If you eat anything try chicken soup I was able to eat a small bowl after 4-6 days

Everyone is different might be gone in 3 days might be 6 in the meantime realise this is not normal I went round in a downward spiral until I almost killed myself

Not good

Hey. Could be from the binge, but could also be a bug that is going around. Stay hydrated. Eat a little soup if you can manage it, but def stay hydrated. Lots of fluids.

It's great news. Your body is self cleaning/repairing itself. Ridding itself of every last drop of the poison.

Yep. used to happen to me regularly. Are you stopping under the care of a physician?

For me it would last a full 24 hours. Then I was queasy for about a week.

stick to water til things slow down.....then if you've made it a few hours without any return trips to the porcelain bus, try broth......maybe some ramen. your body is doing the "fast" detox, and you need to start finally treating it WELL.

no more booze. EVER. these events will only get worse. one day you'll be puking up blood.

I can attest to this. I was projectile vomiting blood at the end of my drinking. I was 32 years old and I almost bled out and died alone on my couch.

Stay hydrated and drink something cold but, not caffinated. Try apple juice. Sip it. Or if you have one ot can make some juice popcicles. I drank coconut water because it has electrolytes that become depleted and lowers blood pressure. Eat a banana. A benedril helps, too.
