I'm back ..and heading to rock bottom fast !

Hi, As you will see from my name I joined SR four years ago .. I stayed dry for five months in 2013 but this year my drinking escalated. Yesterday I drank 3 bottles of wine. I can't go on like this and need to go to AA. How do I chose a meeting ? Do I just show up ? I am in London.

Depending on what you're looking for, this is the codes for US AA meetings, my guess is UK is the same: Meeting Types and Descriptions | Alcoholics Anonymous in Rhode Island

You can do this, we have all started somewhere, most of us have relapsed and started over. Be sober just for today, don't think about the past, all you have is today my friend.

Welcome back Icandothis. Yep, just show up at any meeting. Call your local AA number and they might have some specific suggestions too. You will find a lot of support and help here on SR too.

AA.org

As far as how to choose a meeting, I chose by location. The only thing I worried about is if it was gender specific - which very few are. Once you get to your first meeting they will have a list of other local meetings. Just go.

I'm glad you're back.

I am not an AA person, but you have gotten good advice.

Good to see you back.

Yes, you do just turn up...be sure to mention that it's your first meeting. You will find people will offer you their phone numbers, and you can phone them when you need to.

There are lots of meetings in London. I'm sure you will find one you like. Let us know how you get on.

I'm glad you are back. Sounds like AA may be a good support for you. I have found reading and posting on SR daily to be very helpful to my recovery.

Hiya. Glad you made it back.

You can go to any meeting (apart from gender specific ones for the opposite sex, but there aren't so many of them.) I'd suggest going to the next one possible, that is easy ish to get to. If you have a big choice, perhaps choose one that is nowhere near any of your drinking haunts so you're not tempted to revisit while you're feeling anxious (as most of us feel very nervous going into our first meeting).

Find a Meeting | AA Meetings | Alcoholics Anonymous (Great Britain) Ltd

Just pop your postcode and the day of the week in the Meeting Finder and look. What are your meeting choices for today? Have you some in mind as possibles?
