Inadvertently Drank Alcohol...

Firstly, Merry Christmas to all, I hope you've had a good one!

I am 8 days sober, or I should say I 'was' 8 days sober...

I got through Christmas with no alcohol... Somehow!

But today I went to my 94 year old Grandfathers.

He was in good spirits, despite health issues.

However, I asked for a 'soft drink' and said I would get them, but he still likes to do things for himself.

He gave me several glasses over abour 4 hours, or 'Cranberry and Orange' sparkling drink.

Turns out it was 3% alcohol

I blame myself for not checking so guess tomorrow I'm back to day 1..

Oops! I bet grandpa didn't mean any harm.

Back at it. You know what to do.

That can be tough one but since you are 8 days in I think your mind would rest easier starting at day 1. You don't want to be further down the road and have any doubts on your sobriety date. I question my date and decided to move it ahead a couple of days to be safe. To this day I'm very happy I did!

Great job on 8 days sober though! Please don't use this as an excuse to drink further but truly start again and this time be more aware of everything you drink.

Draw a line under and keep moving forward!!

You didn't intentionally set out to drink, so don't be beating yourself up too much, learn from it and more on!!

You should have been able to smell that sh!t a mile away. Once you're away from booze and it's out of your system, it's really easy to detect. So....be more vigilant.

Thank you.

I certainly don't blame anyone, but myself.

But it was a 'mistake' I never told my Grandfather as he in is bad health, and I probably won't tell him considering his age.

I don't feel 'drunk' which is good, just more annoyed at myself.

Tomorrow is a new, sober, day Thank you for all your support - Cass xxx

I really wouldn't get hung up on it, it's not as if you got drunk.

I think I accidentally picked up and had a few sips from a bucks fizz a few days ok. Looked and tasted just like the Fanta I had poured for myself. It's no big deal, as soon as I realised what I might have done (it tasted just like Fanta) I poured it away just in case. No big deal and not something I would reset my sobriety date for. Probably more alcohol in my half a cap of mouthwash.

Be vigilant though!

Good that you noticed Cassie and that you're getting back on track.

If it's 3% alcohol, it's really hard to tell. I got tripped up once on that, too. Couldn't tell, didn't even feel anything. I guess I was used to drinking my 13.5% chardonnay. :-)

Sometimes it is genuinely hard to tell if something is alcoholic or not. Back in my drinking days, I remember some of the 'cooler' type drinks went down like soft drink, and I don't remember the breezer type drinks reeking of rum either.

I recall various home made 'Sangrias' that I did not know were alcoholic until I felt the buzz.

All the more reason to be very careful and ask if you're not sure I think?
