Please Help Son in detox again

dear SR friends, my son , again has relapsed x 18 at this point. Ex is willing to relocate him to another state another program another chance..............son in agreement anyone from Georgia and know of Willingway? or Hazeldon in Minnesota these were two suggested locations that have year long programs for the youth who cant seem to get out of there own way. My son is asking and when asking we are willing to at least start the ball rolling................

I cant take one more call of OD and narcan..............how many chances does one have..............my heart is heavy I know we cant advise byt would appreciate any opinions if anyone has heard of locations at all
sincerely

Hi, again. Very sorry for your trouble. Can't really speak to your query other than that Hazeldon has been a rehab facility for a long time and, presumably , knows how to help. Assume you have gone online for info? Perhaps others with more knowledge about long-term inpatient rehab centers can help answer your questions. Good luck.

again.....I have visited Hazelden facility, myself....very impressive, as far as their alcoholism program......(I escorted a patient there)...
I have referred some people there who were very happy with the alcoholism program.
It is located out in the beautiful countryside......in Minnesota....
I don't know anything about their long term drug program, but I would assume that it would be good ...based on their reputation.

I have no personal experience, but have heard others on SR say that the Hazeldon facility is very good, very reputable.

Again,

I have no first hand experience with either one but Hazelden has been there for a long, long time - one of the first. Founded circa 1950?

Father Joseph Martin found his sobriety there and went on to tour the country with his "Chalk Talk" program and ultimately with the help of Mae Abraham he founded Father Martin's Ashley in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Father Martin's Ashley changed their name to Ashley Addiction Treatment last year to make their name more "search engine friendly".

Father Martin passed away a few years ago; Mae just celebrated 51 years clean and sober.

Here is a link to rehabs.com with their reviews of Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Minnesota:
Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Reviews, Ratings, Cost & Price - Center City, MN

Just a few words of warning which you probably already understand: Whenever you read reviews of rehabs you generally only find two points of view 1) this place sucks! I left after 3 days AMA because they didn't understand me. Or, 2) This place saved my life, the staff was wonderful, the food was great, etc.

I think rehab is just the same as college -- a person gets out of it exactly what they put into it. There is no miracle rehab that can turn your son around until he is ready.

Good luck!

Keep coming back,

Jim

My dearest Again, As you are dealing with the fear, joy and sadness all rolled into one, I also am walking with you. JJ finally accepted the offer of inpatient (5th one!) and my only reply is YES. I found a Christian based inpatient ranch that allows them to work and live there for up to a year. He willingly accepted that he has not yet been delivered from this addiction.
Of COURSE you will help and I think that your oldest son moving far away is the BEST thing you could offer.
Hang in there, God's working on our sons hearts and souls as we speak!

Dear Again, he is at Restoration Ranch in Ramona, CA. I learned of this place from a former friend of JJ whom I see on Facebook and he is also 26, also had lived in Poway and from a good family just like our boys. He fell into the trap of addiction just like our boys. He is doing very very well here with the Christian program. Google Restoration Ranch for more information. It isn't free, its $700 per month but that includes food and boarding.

Try Teen Challenge. Its Christian based too and up to a year I think. Its not just for Teens despite its name. I wish my daughter would go but she's far from ready for that, I'm sorry to say. Good luck

Dear Again, I would speak directly from my heart and let your son know you believe in him and that he CAN do this! I am also praying that God touches his heart to open it to HIS power. I don't think there is a magic formula of words, but I pray your son feels your love shining through the phone. He has been in detox right? So he is clear headed for the moment it seems.

Again,

I have no great insightful words to suggest in an intervention.

But from what I have read of interventions, the key for the participants is to speak about how the person's addiction has hurt them and that their only wish is for the addict to find sobriety since they can see it destroying the addict.

It is best if there is a rehab already on notice that the addict may be coming. A professional interventionist will have a rehab alerted and be ready to transport the addict as soon as he / she agrees to go --- "strike while the iron is hot".

Keep coming back,

Jim
