Just joined, feeling more positive already!

Hi everyone. Ive been reading posts on and off for a while but ive now joined and feel this could be the support i need to finally do this! Pretty much every bad mistake ive ever made has been while drunk, I've so many nights i don't even remember, ive put myself at risk, done awful things. Im sick of feeling ill and tired and looking like a red faced hag, sick of wasting all my money and being known for being a drinker. Im disgusting but that ends now. Ive never been this honest with anyone before but i have to change and start living again.

Thanks everyone, this is the first time ive ever done this with outside support. Im too ashamed to tell anyone else the harsh reality of my drinking.

Read around..... you'll find there is no need for shame Here.

Nothing you can share is shocking in this company... we've seen and done it all.

But please know this; shame doesn't serve you. Shame is a trap. Shame leads you back to the bottle.

You may let go of shame. It isn't going to get you where you want to go. Share and be free. Or follow the steps and separate from it. Or find your own path to release.... but the sooner you work out of shame's ugly selfish grip, the sooner you will find joy.

Amen!

It's always great to start off on a positive note. I think sobriety is awesome, my life is a billion times better sober, and it's definitely something worth getting excitied about.

Have you tried quitting in the past? Is there anything you've learned from any past attempts to quit that you know to prepare for in your early days?

Yes ive tried to quit many times plus ive tried moderation too but it always creeps back up! I think habit and boredom has made me fail before. Also im starting to realise that the oblivion feels like an escape from real life for me. Obviously it just makes everything worse really!

Welcome to SR!! Sounds like you are really ready to be done this time. Like you, I attempted moderation in the past, and failed miserably. It took me a while to finally figure out exactly what I needed to be successful in recovery, and I use a combination of SR, exercise, reading, and mindfulness.

You should join the December class, you will find others who have committed or recommitted to sobriety this month as well. The 24 hour thread is another great place to check in daily. Both of these threads will connect you with some of the incredible members on this site.

Glad you are here!
