Drink Normally?

I'll drink socially. Wine a dinner parties. Beer at the pub. No tequila. No puking. No crashing on couches cause can't drive. No driving while over .08. No pouring wine into kombucha bottles. No predrinking before I go out. No drinking alone. (That's a hard one).

Ok. That's the list. 30 day challenge?
Ugh. Right now I don't honestly think that list is possible. Dann.

Sounds like you have concerns over your drinking habits. Giving sobriety - total sobriety- a try for 30 days is something plenty of people try and see how that works.

Would you be interested in trying AA during that time?

Lots of us also found that when we quit, changing habits (people, places, things, etc that were habitual and part of our regular drinking lives) was very important at the beginning, at least.

Good luck.

"Here are some of the methods we tried: Drinking beer only, limiting the number of drinks, never drinking alone, never drinking in the morning, drinking only at home, never having it in the house, never drinking during business hours, drinking only at parties, switching from scotch to brandy, drinking only natural wines, agreeing to resign if ever drunk on the job, taking a trip, not taking a trip, swearing off forever (with or without solemn oath), taking more physical exercise, reading inspirational books, going to health farms and sanitariums, accepting voluntary commitment to asylums-we could increase the list ad infinitum " Big Book, More about Alcoholism pg 31

Give 30 day sobriety a go. Can't hurt. And you might discover some things.

That I think would be a good thing to add to the test.
I relate to a lot of the stories told there.
Helps me to stay sober -- sobriety is a (must) for me.

I also played with this sobriety thing
until I got tired of getting burned.

Good luck,

If it's going to be a challenge, is it worth it in the first place? I say this as I've recently attempted similar which resulted in a 5 day bender.

I think a 30 day sobriety challenge might be more worthwhile, then take it from there.

It isn't possible if you are an alcoholic. What you really need to decide is if you are one or not.

Your first post expressing concern about drinking was 12/20/12...four years ago. Then there are dozens of other posts...

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...=7461388&pp=20

Maybe reread some?

Moderating isn't going to work, I think you know that. It just wakes up the addiction...every time.

Sending you hope for a better life.

I joined sr the same time as you 4 years ago. I'd known for years I had a drink problem for years before that too. I'd tried the same plan so many times and it might have worked for a few weeks till I reverted to type.

Why do you think your moderation plan will work this time?

I tried moderating. It was exhausting and never worked for long. It's a lot easier, and more fun, being totally sober.

I may be new here, but I'm pretty positive the majority of posters here are not interested in "drinking with rules".

Drink Normally?
I asked myself that question a lot. It wasn't the right question.

The better question for me was "Why is drinking so important to me that I'm willing to risk everything to keep doing it?"

Answering that question got me better results.

Press,

Booze eventually caused me physical and mental health issues.

I always have to keep that in the front of my mind.

Otherwise, i would still be a drunk.

Addiction is for life.

Thanks.

I did the 30 day challenge lots of times..and succeeded every time. My problem was, once I started drinking, I had no control, I did have control whether I started or not, everyone does.
So everytime I did the 30 day challenge, I would "prove" to myself I had no problem! And start drinking again until I was so ill I couldn't keep anymore drink down.
I haven't had a drink in over 5 years now, I haven't proved I don't have a problem with drink to myself this time, I have proved I don't have a problem with drink, if I don't drink it!

According to the FDA, moderate drinking is defined as one standard drink per woman and 2 standard per drinks per man per day. A standard drink is defined as 12oz of beer, 4-5oz of wine, 1.5 oz of hard liquor of course depending on the alcoholic content.

Exceeding more than 5 drinks for women and 6 for men in a 6 hour period is a binge.

If FDA guidelines for moderate drinking sound kind of pointless to you or you are unable to do so without considerate effort, than I would encourage you to consider if you have an alcohol problem.
