Tools for Change (and hello)

Emma here. A long time reader of this forum but this is the first time I'm posting.

I feel as though I need to do something different, to get this sobriety to stick, so here I am. I'm at the stage that I need a community and support (I've done my time in NA, it's not my preferred method of coping and I didn't rack up any significant sober time working the steps. That's a whole other conversation though).

I'm 36, female, part of a poly family (so I have plenty of real life support - but not from other addicts). Great friends, family, good life etc etc. But the ever present theme running though it all is the drugs. I've been using drugs and booze and whatever else worked at the time to numb-out, since I was 14.

I need a radical change. I want to change, the motivation is there (my mental and physical health, my sanity, my family).
But I don't have the tools to make it stick. Clearly. Hoping to find them here.

Hi Emma,

I'm glad you decided to post. I think it's good to remember that stopping drinking/drugs is the first step, but we usually need to deal with the underlying issues in order to maintain recovery. We are here to offer support.

Absolutely. Thanks for the reminder and the welcome. Thank you to you too, ChloeRose.
I was diagnosed bipolar II last month, which explained a lot, looking back in hindsight on past behaviours. I'm on medication which has made me feel like a new person.... I had just over a month sober time and was feeling like I'd turned a corner.
And YET, I still leaped at the chance to use without even thinking about it last week, and again yesterday. GAH.

So. Frustrating.

@Quitter - day one for me. let's do this.

Welcome Emma

I find a recovery plan is fundamental for success. There are some great ideas here:

Welcome Emma! You will find lots of support in SR. Dee's link is a great one, also look into joining the December class, and pop into the 24 hour thread each day.
